Natural animal husbandry in the great outdoors

Natürliche Tierhaltung in der freien Natur

More and more people with a holistic lifestyle are finding it important to eat consciously. This means they want to know exactly what they are eating, where it comes from, and how it was processed. Sustainable meat consumption is a crucial factor here, because anyone who doesn't want to give up meat should follow the motto: less, but high-quality meat is better. But how do you recognize sustainable meat products? Many factors must be considered and examined. First and foremost, animal husbandry that is species-appropriate and natural and reflects its nature. The growing conditions of the feed play just as much a role as environmental and species protection. Added to this are humane slaughter conditions, processing, and the use of as many parts of the animal as possible (nose-to-tail principle). This sustainable use of resources of all kinds, which ensures the regeneration and stability of the ecosystem in question, is for us Buffalo Bill highest credo.

What makes animal welfare so special

Species-appropriate animal husbandry is based on an animal's natural habitat and its innate behavior. The more space the animals have and the better the environmental conditions, the less susceptible they are to disease. This, in turn, reduces the number of times the animals require medical treatment. For water buffalo, for example, pasture farming is ideal, as this corresponds to their natural habitat. Just as with humans, it is important for an animal to live in the right social environment - this means that the herd size must be appropriate to its species. Feed and its production are also important criteria that are strictly controlled. Species-appropriate animal husbandry also includes slaughter - so the dignity of the animal must not be diminished here.

Factory farming is also dangerous for consumers

In factory farming, animals are deprived of their natural habitat; they are often forced to live in degrading conditions, crammed into cramped stalls, many without any access to the outdoors. To maintain their performance, hormones are added to their feed and antibiotics are added to prevent diseases that are inevitable under such conditions. This, in turn, poses risks, as by consuming the meat, they unknowingly ingest drug residues whose effects are unpredictable.

Grazing and natural nutrition for our water buffalo

For us at Buffalo Bill, the well-being of our water buffalo is our top priority. Partners in Italy In Argentina, the buffalo are exclusively kept on vast pastures where they spend the year outdoors. The natural and free-roaming lifestyle of our water buffalo is reminiscent of wild animals – their natural robustness, coupled with the ideal fauna on our partners' pastures, makes the use of antibiotics and growth hormones unnecessary. They feed exclusively on fresh grass and herbs – depending on the location, a different, unique, aromatic flavor is created, as the animal's diet is reflected in the flavor of the meat.

Our water buffalo are raised in a stress-free environment and according to the highest standards. Our buffalo experience ethical and species-appropriate animal husbandry throughout every process, from rearing to slaughter, because at Buffalo Bill, we understand that dignity is inviolable.
